Halo EFX Application.
So what is liquid wrapping anyway?
You might have heard of Vinyl Wrapping? Well this isn’t it. 🙂 Vinyl wrapping goes on in sheets. Liquid wrapping is a new polymer based coating that sprays on, and not only protects the original paint beneath, but allows you to change the colour to pretty much anything that you can imagine. When applied correctly it’s indistinguishable from the original OEM finish. In some cases its actually better. Ask the show winners. The ‘True Gloss’ finish can be buffed, sanded, and polished if desired, but it’s pretty good straight out of the gun anyway. And it’s fuel-proof! Its party piece is the fact that if you make a mistake, or just fancy a change, then you just find an edge and peel it right off again! (see the videos below)
So you still want to liquid wrap your car in a Halo EFX True Gloss (fuel proof) finish. Well look no further. Listed here are all the Halo EFX products that you’ll need to do just that. (Again, please see the videos below)
The specially formulated Halo EFX ‘Top Coats’ (Gangsta Black, Brilliant White and Sinister Red) work hand in hand with the Halo EFX ‘True Gloss’ BUT you must not spray True Gloss directly onto the original paint finish. Well you can, but you won’t be able to peel it off again! 🙂
If you’re not going to use True Gloss as a finish you can substitute the ‘Top Coats’ below with the cheaper ‘Base Coats’. The same minimum quantities apply. You won’t have a fuel-proof finish, and the finish will be satin, not gloss.
Outline
Halo EFX is a sprayable polymer based product that requires a minimum amount of product to be used to enable you to successfully peel it off again when required. See the minimum gallon requirements below.
For the initial coats you will use the specially formulated ‘Top Coats’ (Gangsta Black, Brilliant White or Sinister Red). Start with light coats and then build up to full wet coats. You may then need ‘Real Clear’ to mix in any pearls or RAL drop-in that you want to use. You must leave at least 30 minutes ‘flash’ time between these layers. Choose from over a hundred pearls here, giving millions of possible colour combinations.
Finally you’ll then finish off with final finish coats of Halo EFX True Gloss which comes supplied with it’s own ‘hardener’ for a sandable, buffable, and fuel-proof finish. If you’ve used any ‘Real Clear’ in the process above then you need to wait at least 8 hours before spraying any ‘True Gloss’.
Quantities:
Firstly choose the correct quantities:
Halo EFX requires a minimum thickness in order to have the tensile strength to peel properly for removal. This is the whole point of the system. The easiest way to achieve this is to specify a minimum amount of product required to achieve the best results. It doesn’t really matter how you divide up the colours, and every application will be slightly different, depending on whether you’re using pearls, RAL drop-ins etc. If you need to suspend pearls or use a RAL drop-in then you’ll need at least two coats to achieve a good colour coverage. This means at least 1 gallon on small vehicles, and 2 gallons on the larger ones.
The following are minimum quantities.
Note: If you’re not spraying the roof then you need approximately 1 gallon less than stated.

- Pearls/RAL : 6 Gallons ‘Top Coat’, 2 Gallon ‘Real Clear’, optional 1 Gallon of ‘True Gloss.’
The Process:
Step 1: (optional, but recommended)
For an easier peel later on you can spray a light ‘tac’ coat of real clear, followed by one wet coat of real clear.
Step 1a:
Spray ALL of the specified gallons of ‘Top Coat’ starting with light ‘tac coats’ and progress up to full ‘wet’ coats until you’ve used up ALL of the ‘Top Coat’ material. You MUST leave a minimum ‘flash time’ of 30 minutes between coats.
Note: It is possible to substitute ‘Top Coats’ with the cheaper ‘Base Coats’ HOWEVER the cure time of these products will require you to wait at least a week before you attempt to spray any Halo EFX ‘True Gloss’. The ‘True Gloss’ only designed to work with the ‘Top Coats’. (The exception to this is using the ‘Real Clear’ for pearls or tints AFTER spraying on a ‘Top Coat’ base. For this the cure time is reduced to 8 hours, see below.)
Step 2:
If you’re using ‘Real Clear’ mixed with the correct concentration of pearls OR use a RAL solid colour drop-in for that solid non-metallic colour. Spray ALL of the minimum product quantity listed above. Since these are MINIMUM quantities listed, feel free to build up the coats until you have the achieved the desired effect. Remember to leave at least 30 minutes ‘flash time’ between coats.
If you stop the process here then you’ll have a satin finish which is NOT fuel proof.
Step3 (Optional)
‘True Gloss’ fuel-proof finish, but really worth it. Spray 2 or 3 Full wet coats of True Gloss. This is NOT built up gradually, it’s full wet coats. Remember to mix in the activator!!
Note: IF you’ve used ‘Real Clear’ anywhere in the process then you need to wait at least 8 hours before spraying the ‘True Gloss’. It’s not an issue if you plan your day around it. Better still, leave it overnight. If you haven’t used ANY of the ‘Top Coats’ and have substituted them entirely with ‘Base Coats’ then you must wait at least a week before spraying the ‘True Gloss’.
Sand, buff and polish. You’re done!
